Nigeria and Africa

No matter how far apart two countries may be, they both possess several similarities, whether it is Italy and France or China and America. Nigeria and Egypt are well-known for their top-leading soccer teams, superior armed forces, and their situated location in Africa. But despite these similarities, they also possess several differences, including culture, government, geographical surroundings and demographics.
Although, both countries are situated not too far from each other the culture in Nigeria and Egypt differ drastically. Egypt is considered to be one of “the middle-eastern” countries with Islam set as its top religion including 90% of Egyptian People. The rest of the 10% include Coptic and Christianity. The most spoken language in Egypt is Arabic. 99.6% of residents in Egypt are Egyptian meanwhile the .4% are listed as other. English Creole is the officially spoken language in Nigeria along with Badu and Chadic languages. Almost 50 percent of all Nigerians are Muslim and the other 40 percent are Christian. Culture is a major difference in both countries.
Politically speaking, both Nigeria and Egypt have several differences. As we know Egypt recently had its revolution against its government and the president, Hosni Mubarak, who has dictated Egypt for the past 30 years. Although Egypt has won its revolution, it has still been working on improving its government as well as improving the lives of Egyptian people. Nigeria on the other hand, has a fine government established to this date. Nigeria’s Federal Republic Government consists of 36 States, and a Capital Territory, with an elected President and a Legislature.   With these branches, Nigeria’s Government can often be compared to that of America’s. With Nigeria’s fine established government and Egypt’s developing government, the differences in how society may look in both countries may be distinguished.
Nigeria and Egypt may be located on two different sides of Africa but they both comprise of very different geographical significances and demographics. Nigeria lies on the western tip of Africa and is surrounded by the Gulf of Guinea, just north of the equator. The major rivers that flow through Nigeria include the Niger River and the Benue River. These two rivers join in the center of the country to form a "Y" that splits Nigeria into three separate sections. Nigeria has the largest population of an country in Africa, with a total of 158.3 million people. Egypt, located in Northern Africa, is surrounded by the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. The Nile River is also a geographical significance of Egypt as it provided irrigation and food in the earlier civilization. This river is known as the longest river in the world as it flows through ten countries of Africa. Egypt, also well-known for its population, has the second largest population, following Nigeria, with a population of 82 million people approximately 76 million people in difference. The population of the Capital City, Cairo, alone is roughly 6.7 million. The perception of each country is different due to its geographical locations.
Nigeria  is a country that gained it’s independence on October1st 1960 under the British government . Ever since Nigeria has gone from military  regime to democratic government. The  first  Democratic president was elected on May 9th  1999 and his name was Olusegun Obasanjo. Nigeria has 3 major tribes Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. Nigeria has many tourist attraction such as The Yankiri Game Reserve , The Obudu Cattle Ranch, and The Aso Rock.

Egypt is a country in North Africa and also it’s capital is Cairo. Egypt is known for it’s great pyramids and also great Pharoah’s. This has made Egypt one of the world greatest tourist attraction. Also in Egypt, Arabic is the number one speaking  language. Over the years Egypt has been under the dictatorship rule of Muhammad Hosni Sayyid  Mubarak but earlier on this year the Egyptians revolted against him and he was desposed of power. The Nile river which is the  longest river in the world is also  in Egypt.

Nigeria and Egypt are two countries that are situated in Africa. Both are widely recognized by the outside world  and they are also great tourist attraction.  Our soccer teams both qualified for the 2010 world cup that was held in South Africa last year. We also boast of  good armed forces because they are one of the best in Africa. Nigeria and Egypt are also on the world’s top ten list of oil producing countries. We are both strong members of  the United Nations and also the African Union.

Nigeria and Egypt are two great countries in Africa and they are both known for their uniqueness. Nigeria is known as the giant of Africa and also the most populous country in Africa. It also houses Africa’s most populous city which is Lagos . Our government is democratic while on the other hand Egypt just came out from a 25 year dictator ship rule . Africans are hardworkers by nature and to proof this , Forbes Magazine has named Aliko Dangote of Nigeria as the richest black person in the world and also in Africa.  Nigeria and Egypt are two great sons of Africa.

event follow up

Breast Cancer is an issue that strikes people worldwide; man or women, black or white, young or old. It can be considered one of the deadliest diseases that strike women. So how does today’s society contribute to helping patients who have been diagnosed with this deadly disease? Several cars filled the parking lot at the Chevrolet Dealership in Smithtown on October 16th to raise money towards the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition.
As we all know October is the month for Breast Cancer awareness as pink is exhibited everywhere from ribbons in supermarkets to college campuses. Attending this event at the Chevrolet Car Show I learned a lot about not only the company of Chevrolet but about what Chevrolet does for raising awareness for Breast Cancer.  To begin the evening I interviewed a woman, Pattie Daly, who represented breast cancer for the Chevrolet Company. Daly organizes events for Breast Cancer whether it is in the month of October or not.  I obtained a few statistics on the topic of breast cancer by Daly which seemed to stun me. Although I’ve done research on the topic of breast cancer I was so surprised when it was given to me in statistics. One in every four women are diagnosed with breast cancer and one in every eleven men are diagnosed with breast cancer. Daly also gave me information about the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition in which I learned that employees from Chevrolet volunteer to help the families of people diagnosed with breast cancer. They go and take care of the family along with cooking for the children and taking them to school. Chevrolet doesn’t make their company their first priority but the people in society as well.
Along with those statistics, I was also made aware that this is the one hundredth anniversary of Chevrolet which is the reason why throughout the month of October, the Chevy Camaro Club will take part in donating one hundred dollars for every car sold. I was told by Daly that all of the money will be going towards HBCAC. The Director of the Huntington Breast Cancer who started all of the coalitions in the country also attended the Chevrolet Car Show . Pattie Daly was also selling I love boobies bracelet for ten dollars at the Car Show which will be donated to the coalition as well. The cars that were presented at the dealership had to pay a 10 dollar preregistration fee which will also be donated to HBCAC. People are paying for these cars for just having them on display which also goes to breast cancer. So from this one company, breast cancer is being assisted tremendously in just one month.
I also interviewed Natalie Mahase, who lives in Ridgewood, NY who came all the way to Smithtown to show her support for this benevolent event. She drives a Chevrolet Corvette and was looking to put her car for show for a few reasons. To begin she has had numerous cases of Breast Cancer occurring throughout her family. She told me that displaying her car at the show was not her only motive but she also donated money as well. But that wasn’t the only reason that Mahase came all the way to Smithtown, she was also on a mission to meet the Director of events for Chevrolet for all the assistance that’s been put in to lending a helping hand for cancer. Mahase discussed her meeting with the director and filled me in on a couple of things. The director says that Chevrolet had another car event also for the fight against breast cancer in the month of September. They received over one hundred thousand just from that event. In conclusion, breast cancer is not alone in this fight it has people and companies raising fundraisers worldwide, throughout the whole year including Chevrolet.
Cancer affects men and women everyday and Chevrolet events are here to help the people affected by it. The Chevrolet car show not only donates everything it has to breast cancer in the month of October but rebates on oil changes and car washes were also donated to HBCAC. The car show also held this event to celebrate its one- hundredth anniversary for Chevrolet.  The month of October isn’t the only month that Chevrolet tries to donate towards breast cancer but money is donated in the previous months as well.  If people are putting as much of an effort as Chevrolet is towards breast cancer the amount of people cured will surely increase.

compare/contrast

As I have walked through the street corners of New York City, the numerous amount of homeless people living on the sidewalks have caught my eye. The goal of the president is to get these people off the streets and into homes. But have you ever looked at a homeless person and saw the face of someone who can be successful like the president? A president and a homeless person have more in common then we know. A president may be famous and have a luxurious home, and fulfilling duties but he also has personal issues and needs support as he is judged by people who watch him, just like a homeless person.
When one looks at a president they think his only concern should be to help the nation get through hard times. Barely will one look at a president for his personal issue unless it is blown up by the media… like Bill Clinton. But saving the nation isn’t a president’s only duty but he also has personal concerns like family matter. Homeless people also have personal issues whether it is trying to support a family or trying to get back on their feet. But we never look beyond the issues that these two types of people may be facing; instead we only see what is on the outside.
Hearing the term “president” for so long we begin to put a few words to the term, such as responsibility and leader.  Hearing the term “homeless” on the other hand, the words poverty and poor will automatically “pop” into my head. When words automatically “pop” into anyone's head this is sometimes called judging. A president will always be viewed as this “family man” and “a graduate student of the best school”, and when a candidate comes along that has neither of these characteristics they are sometimes judged for it.  Homeless people are also judged but mostly in negative ways where they are looked at as dirty and poor people. But they are people just like us the only thing different is that they don’t have a home.
Presidents will always need support whether it is from family or other political figures. They need support when media brings them down and they also need support behind new ideas. Homeless people need support in a different way than presidents. A homeless person needs support to pick their life up and get off the streets. Without any motivation or support from anyone it is very hard to get back on the right track.
With all the similarities a president and homeless person may have they also have differences. A president has a big white house to live in along with a bed and a bathroom, therefore we may say he is wealthy. Meanwhile a homeless person would be lucky to even have a place to go to the bathroom. A president is responsible to help a whole nation through a hard time meanwhile a poor persons motive should be to help himself get through a hard time. A president is famous world-wide as he sits down with presidents all over the country while a homeless person will get lucky if the same person passed him twice and even recognized him.
Although a president may dress classy meanwhile a homeless man barely dresses, they will always have similarities but what one must do is look beyond what we see visually. To determine the similarities a homeless man and a president may have, one must ignore the terms that will come to mind when hearing both words. Instead, we must view what similarities both may have on the inside.

Newspapers

The New York Post and the New York Times are well-known recognized newspapers. But what doesn’t appear to stun readers is how different they both can be. The New York Times is very serious with its matter and gives all the information the readers are looking for from officer quotations to highly creditable sources. The New York Times also has an International Section for foreign affairs. The New York Times sets up its newspaper to grip the readers attention by putting the leading top stories on the cover page and leaving readers with a cliffhanger to continue on to the guided page. By putting this on the first page, attracted customers will look to purchase this newspaper. The articles in the New York Times have every single detail about the topic especially when compared with the New York Post.

Unlike the New York Times, the New York Post can sometimes be mixed up with a magazine. The New York Post may have serious matter within its articles but it definitely has celebrity gossip as well. While flipping through the pages in the New York post, articles on Ashton Kutcher’s love life occupy one whole page on the famous newspaper as well as Selena Gomez’s outfit at a premiere. Although both newspapers are widely famous, the real question is… Are there customers who realize this difference? If so, is this why they may prefer one newspaper over another? It also seems to me that the New York Times is more organized as well as it splits up its newspaper into International, Business, Art, Sports … etc. Meanwhile, New York Post is more scattered around.

The article I read in both the New York Post and The New York Times was about the terrorist plot that was planned by Manssor Arbabsia. This plot was aiming to kill the Saudi Embassador, Adek Al-Jubeir , in a Washington D.C. bombing.  The New York Post got straight to the point as it was describing the terrorist incident where on the other hand, The New York Times had every single detail including quotations from several officials and even statements from Senator Hilary Clinton. After putting both articles together I know both the details and the overlook on the whole situation. Manssor Arbabsia was looking to kill the embassador by offering 1.5 Million Iranian blood money to anyone who would be willing to kill him and it is believed that it was a Mexican Drug-Cartel Hitman. Manhattan Attorney Preet Bharara stated, “Todays charges should make crystal clear that we will not let other countries use our soil as their battle ground.”  Arbabsia was arrested as he got off the plane at JFK airport. He has agreed to follow any orders until October 5th where he was recorded on a telephone call with Gholam Shakuri using secretive language as he states the code words to assisinate the Saudi Embassador. Arbabsiar appeared in a Manhattan federal court where he is agreeing to be held under custody without any bail until his next hearing on October 25th.
Both Articles had very well descriptions in informing the reader with the topic. But if I was looking for details on the topic I would have definitely read The New York Times opposed to the New York Post. If I was looking for a quick story that I could read minute ride into the city I would have read the Post.

Chevrolet Car Show for Breast Cancer Donation

On October 16th, a Chevrolet car show will be held in Smithtown for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This event will last from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. This car show's motive is not just looking to sell cars to customers but it is looking to raise money to help the fight against cancer for not only women but for several men diagnosed with breast cancer as well.

In 2010, about 207,090 women were predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer according to seer.cancer.gov. Breast Cancer is a disease that may impact every single person but it is more of a hereditary disease. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is looking to help individuals fight cancer and raise awareness. With awareness of how powerful this disease is people will look to get tested earlier because the earlier one is tested the easier it will be to treat it. So there will be hundreds of events held to raise awareness as well as raising money to help cure the ones who are impacted by it. Although October is the month for Breast Cancer, it is every single day for the people who are affected by it along with their families.

This car show is going to donate one hundred dollars from each vehicle sold to the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition. Chevrolet’s goal by the end of the day is to have raised and donated ten thousand dollars to the Breast Cancer Coalition, as stated by the manager, Peter Kontzanamys.

Along with these donations Chevrolet is also asking customers to donate their rebates, ten dollars to twenty-five dollars, on oil changes to the American Cancer Society. They don't stop there, in the month of September Chevrolet also donated two hundred dollars for every caution lap their pink Camaro performed. Chevrolet ended up donating 12,800 dollars !Therefore, this car show isn't the only thing that Chevrolet will be doing to help donate to Cancer but it is definitely on the list.

Cancer can hit anybody including those who aren’t getting up and making a difference in society to help those diagnosed. So do something to help those in need. There will be free food, raffles, and live music as well to keep the party going. Lend a helping hand and make breast cancer known!

NOT A REAL OBITUARY- SCHOOL PROJECT

Reem Badr, physician assistant at Winthrop Hospital for 40 years, died this Friday afternoon at the age of 68 years old after being a victim of a hostage situation at the Chase bank in Jamaica.

Badr has saved hundreds of lives at the Winthrop Hospital and was hoping that this man whos name is not yet released would spare her of her life. Badr was held hostage along with ten others and when she went into her bag to get out her pepper spray she was shot right in her leg. She then bled to death at the scene.

"She always brought two things into work: A smile and devotion", said Ryan Galli, Badrs supervisor of almost 15 years. "For a 68 year old lady, she was very independent, strong and loving. It's sad to see her go like this."

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the church right by Winthrop Hospital .

Badr was born in 1993 and grew up in the same house her whole childhood in the town of Selden, NY. She attended Newfield Highschool and graduated in 2011. She then studied at St. John's University to obtain her degree as a physician assistant and graduated in 2015.

She then married Paul Walker, actor who starred in several Hollywood movies, in the year of 2017.

"Although she wanted to save lives she also wanted to make a difference in the lives of the people around her and that is exactly what she did.", Galli stated.

She began working at Winthrop Hospital two years after she graduated and she never left that hospital. She not only was a physician assistant but she was a previous finalist in 2014 on the famous television show American Idol.

Badr's Husband died in a car accident in 2040 when a drunk driver crashed into his brand new car. He was crushed in a brand new Audi that he had bought to surprise Badr for her 50th birthday.

Badr leaves behind a family of three sons, Bobby Badr of 15 years, Johnathon Badr of 17 years and Vincent Badr of 21 years; two daughters, Janelle Badr of 12 years and Jamie Badr of 18 years. Along with one granddaughter of one year.

Advertisement description

Absolut Citron is being marketed by a somewhat young lady exposing her breasts. Flowers, lemons, Absolut, glasses, and a phone are all within the advertisements. I think the general time period these objects are associated with are within the present time. She’s making a call in a very revealing position. She’s on the phone  with an expression that seems to be searching for pleasure. She’s in a house with a rug, a window ledge, what seems to be a tree on the outside, with water below. A phone is also present which leads us to believe she’s in a house. She is wearing a yellow robe which is extremely revealing near her breasts. She’s alone in the advertisement. The advertisement is selling Absolut Citron branded alcohol. Her position, the clothes she’s wearing, and most of all the overall sexual nature of the advertisement.

The Infamous events of NHS

As I have roamed around the halls of Newfield High School for four enduring years several events have occurred that can be considered to be unforgettable. It is events like these that make one wonder if the students have any common sense whatsoever. Even though I have graduated along with the other corrupted children that caused most of this mischief I wonder if the chaos will still continue on.

It was my sophomore year where I sat in the mind-numbing class of geometry staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring. I looked out of the door to see the seniors chucking their food at each other running through the hallways. Suddenly the principal walked in and everyone stopped. They all turned around and began hammering the principal with food. His body began to be covered in bits of pizza, turkey slices, juice… etc. Classes were postponed for hours that day and no one was allowed to leave class until the seniors who were involved came to confession.

I was on line at the cafeteria waiting the usual 15 minutes when I hear that two kids that I used to be best friends with a couple years back have went to the payphone at Newfield and decided to prank call 911. They were screaming for help as giggling came from the background. I didn’t believe it was true until I got off the lunch line and saw two cop cars approaching from the courtyard.

I have seen one of the most ridiculous fights occur at Newfield ALSO by the cafeteria where two girls began to argue and one of the girls literally took her chicken patty off of her tray and threw it at the other girl. After that fists came flying everywhere and the security guard ran to stop it which he then got punched in the face. Then the assistant principal came and he also got punched in the face until I saw about 4 security guards and two other assistant principal’s stop the fight. It was one of the craziest fights I have ever seen.

Although I have learned discipline and control throughout my school years I have gotten a few good laughs as well.
