event follow up

Breast Cancer is an issue that strikes people worldwide; man or women, black or white, young or old. It can be considered one of the deadliest diseases that strike women. So how does today’s society contribute to helping patients who have been diagnosed with this deadly disease? Several cars filled the parking lot at the Chevrolet Dealership in Smithtown on October 16th to raise money towards the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition.
As we all know October is the month for Breast Cancer awareness as pink is exhibited everywhere from ribbons in supermarkets to college campuses. Attending this event at the Chevrolet Car Show I learned a lot about not only the company of Chevrolet but about what Chevrolet does for raising awareness for Breast Cancer.  To begin the evening I interviewed a woman, Pattie Daly, who represented breast cancer for the Chevrolet Company. Daly organizes events for Breast Cancer whether it is in the month of October or not.  I obtained a few statistics on the topic of breast cancer by Daly which seemed to stun me. Although I’ve done research on the topic of breast cancer I was so surprised when it was given to me in statistics. One in every four women are diagnosed with breast cancer and one in every eleven men are diagnosed with breast cancer. Daly also gave me information about the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition in which I learned that employees from Chevrolet volunteer to help the families of people diagnosed with breast cancer. They go and take care of the family along with cooking for the children and taking them to school. Chevrolet doesn’t make their company their first priority but the people in society as well.
Along with those statistics, I was also made aware that this is the one hundredth anniversary of Chevrolet which is the reason why throughout the month of October, the Chevy Camaro Club will take part in donating one hundred dollars for every car sold. I was told by Daly that all of the money will be going towards HBCAC. The Director of the Huntington Breast Cancer who started all of the coalitions in the country also attended the Chevrolet Car Show . Pattie Daly was also selling I love boobies bracelet for ten dollars at the Car Show which will be donated to the coalition as well. The cars that were presented at the dealership had to pay a 10 dollar preregistration fee which will also be donated to HBCAC. People are paying for these cars for just having them on display which also goes to breast cancer. So from this one company, breast cancer is being assisted tremendously in just one month.
I also interviewed Natalie Mahase, who lives in Ridgewood, NY who came all the way to Smithtown to show her support for this benevolent event. She drives a Chevrolet Corvette and was looking to put her car for show for a few reasons. To begin she has had numerous cases of Breast Cancer occurring throughout her family. She told me that displaying her car at the show was not her only motive but she also donated money as well. But that wasn’t the only reason that Mahase came all the way to Smithtown, she was also on a mission to meet the Director of events for Chevrolet for all the assistance that’s been put in to lending a helping hand for cancer. Mahase discussed her meeting with the director and filled me in on a couple of things. The director says that Chevrolet had another car event also for the fight against breast cancer in the month of September. They received over one hundred thousand just from that event. In conclusion, breast cancer is not alone in this fight it has people and companies raising fundraisers worldwide, throughout the whole year including Chevrolet.
Cancer affects men and women everyday and Chevrolet events are here to help the people affected by it. The Chevrolet car show not only donates everything it has to breast cancer in the month of October but rebates on oil changes and car washes were also donated to HBCAC. The car show also held this event to celebrate its one- hundredth anniversary for Chevrolet.  The month of October isn’t the only month that Chevrolet tries to donate towards breast cancer but money is donated in the previous months as well.  If people are putting as much of an effort as Chevrolet is towards breast cancer the amount of people cured will surely increase.

  1. I really enjoyed reading about your event since I also covered an event on breast cancer. In addition, I enjoyed reading your interviews. However, I feel that you should incorporate direct quotes from the people you interviewed. Also,I would try not to include yourself so much in your writing. Other than that you did a great job.
